Earning a Masters in Social Work and a Doctorate in Education Counseling Psychology she spent the early part of he career working in Early Childhood Mental Health. Her background serves as a foundation for writing books focused on building childhood self confidence. The book series is inspired by and dedicated to her son Carter. Disappointed in the lack of books with boys of color as the main character, she decided to write her own. She states "Now more than ever boys of color need to know they are loved and cherished."
